Arguably one of the most touching responses I received was from future Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Jacoby, one of the original Hogs who anchored the Joe Gibbs three-time championship dynasty Redskins of the 80s and early 90s. Jacoby was named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins, and a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade team…an excellent resume for an undrafted free agent who became a starter in his opening month as a player.
Joe seemed quite touched by my request in my letter. I was also very touched by Jacoby’s request that I read Psalm 91…I am certainly someone who needs to spend more time reading my Bible and living more of my life as a Christian:
Psalm 91: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” … “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
It is responses like these are what I intended the Gratitude to Greats project to be all about. Thank you Mr. Jacoby!!!
