16) Zach Thomas

Miami Dolphins great Zach Thomas was one of the most prolific tacklers in the NFL of the 2000s.

In September, I also heard in the NFL 100: Gratitude to Greats project from a man who I am reasonably sure, based on how I heard his presentation to voters went this year and how close he got to being inducted for the NFL’s Centennial year this year, will have Canton calling in 2021 when the selection is all said and done, underrated Miami linebacking great Zach Thomas. In college at Texas, Zach was quite productive but undersized. I recall in 1996, on my 11th birthday, opening an autograph-in-every-pack pack of football cards (it was both pro and college mixed) I wanted as one of my birthday presents that year, I found Zach’s autograph as my signed card in the pack…nobody in Bossier’s Tom’s Triple Play card store knew who he was…

YET…

However, those people certainly know the name Zach Thomas now, because Zach ended up having a total of 1,181 tackles in the 2000s, the third-most of any player in that decade, behind only London Fletcher and Ray Lewis and was named to the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team.

Zach took the time to congratulate me for “kicking cancer’s ass”, and wished me all the best, as well as His blessings…thank you so much, Zach, and may Canton come calling soon!!!

This is where I chronicle my responses from where I sent NFL greats my letters and emails...
