In early August, I heard from innovative Redskins linebacker Chris Hanburger, who started a new era of linebackers in the NFL in the 1970s that were more mobile and could be more effective against the pass just as much against the run. A 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame senior inductee who was the centerpiece of the George Allen Redskins defense, who dominated the NFC in the early 70s, Chris was also a master of reading an offense’s anticipation and reaction.
While somewhat of a blunt response from Mr. Hanburger, which is likely his military background talking, I very much appreciate the advice from this pro football legend, and this positive attitude toward my diagnosis remained in me. It wasn’t long after I received this letter I was deemed cancer-free.
