My second response that I got the same day as my first one was from one of the most prolific stat-producing passers in NFL history who was at the helm of one of the greatest, yet somewhat overlooked, offenses in history, nicknamed Air Coryell, Dan Fouts. The Chargers great led the NFL in passing four consecutive years, from 1979 to 1982, and broke the NFL yardage record three consecutive times in 1979 after he first broke Joe Namath’s previous mark of 4,007 yards.
Fouts is also one of the most high-profile names to have been a consistent responder of the NFL Hall of Famers to his fans by mail, and as you can see, Mr. Fouts sent me quite an encouraging response. It was responses like one that encouraged me to stay, as this great quarterback said, strong and positive enough to end up overcoming squamous cell cancer.
